You will already need to be familiar with the following basic elements of grammar and syntax from the first 18 chapters of his book: reading the alphabet; standard declensions, basic pronouns, conjunctions and prepositions; present indicative and subjunctive, imperfect active of regular contracted and uncontracted verbs; recognition of indefinite (whoever) and purpose (so that) clauses.
