We offer a regular programme of training and professional development courses for people involved in all kinds of spiritual accompaniment and direction.
This is an introductory course to the Ignatian model of spiritual accompaniment, using principles based on the Spiritual Exercises which will be valuable in a wide variety of pastoral settings. It’s suitable for anyone involved in a ministry of spiritual listening, accompaniment and prayer guiding. Although this course does not provide sufficient training for people to offer spiritual direction, it introduces some of the necessary skills and it may reveal a gift for spiritual direction in the Ignatian tradition. At the end of the course tutors speak to participants individually about what next steps it might be appropriate for them to take in their own context.
Throughout the year, we offer regular 1-day events online and in-person for people already working as spiritual directors, and other people with a listening component to to their ministry. As our speakers, we invite spiritual directors, theologians, psychologists and anyone who we believe has something pertinent and interesting to present to the spiritual direction community. A Manresa Day is usually comprised of 4 input sessions on a particular theme, with opportunity for small group sharing and plenary discussion.
Several times a year, we offer 2-day workshops to existing spiritual directors to help refresh your skills and take a deeper dive into particular topics of interest. Our Understanding the Exercises workshops focus on specific aspects of the Spiritual Exercises and the Ignatian model of direction; and our CPD Skills workshops also invite participants to practice their skills with observation and feedback.
We are keen to increase the availability of supervision for spiritual directors, and this course is intended for people who have sufficient experience of offering spiritual direction and who now wish to explore offering supervision, using principles based on the Spiritual Exercises.
At London Jesuit Centre, we are delighted to host the Ignatian Spirituality Course, which is a comprehensive 3-year training in spiritual direction in the Ignatian tradition. There is also a 1-year top-up course for directors who have trained in other traditions. Please see further details below.
The team at the Ignatian Spirituality Course offer in-depth training for those wishing to become spiritual directors as well as a 'refresher' course for directors wishing to develop their skills.
