Fr David Smolira SJ

Fr David Smolira SJ is currently the Provincial Delegate for Ignatian Formation and is responsible for overseeing the spirituality work of the Jesuits in Britain. He has a background in social work, psychology and psychotherapy, as well as in organisational development. He is an experienced spiritual director and supervisor and has been involved in the training of Ignatian practitioners for over 20 years, both in South Africa and the UK.

Ruth Holgate

Originally an engineering technician, Ruth Holgate went on to study Theology at Heythrop College, London. She holds Master’s degrees in Theology, Psychology and Religion, and Pastoral Supervision. She spent twenty years working with the Jesuits in their Spirituality centres, giving retreats and training spiritual directors and supervisors, as well as holding positions of leadership. She has also offered spiritual direction training outside the UK. Ruth, a Jesuit Associate, currently balances two roles: she is a member of the Jesuit Young Adult Ministries team based in London, and Coordinator for Formation and Training in the Jesuit Spirituality Team. She enjoys the wide variety of this current work, offering spiritual accompaniment and training others to accompany, as well as engaging with thoughtful and enthusiastic young people exploring their faith and lives.
