Fr David Smolira SJ

Fr David Smolira SJ is currently the Provincial Delegate for Ignatian Formation and is responsible for overseeing the spirituality work of the Jesuits in Britain. He has a background in social work, psychology and psychotherapy, as well as in organisational development. He is an experienced spiritual director and supervisor and has been involved in the training of Ignatian practitioners for over 20 years, both in South Africa and the UK.

Ruth Holgate

Originally an engineering technician, Ruth Holgate went on to study Theology at Heythrop College, London. She holds Master’s degrees in Theology, Psychology and Religion, and Pastoral Supervision. She has spent thirty years working with the Jesuits in their Spirituality centres, giving retreats and training spiritual directors and supervisors (in the UK and overseas), as well as holding positions of leadership. After three years in London working with the Jesuit Young Adult Ministry and London Jesuit Centre, Ruth returned to St Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre as its Director in 2021. ‘I really appreciate the opportunities St Beuno’s offers people to encounter God on retreat and during training courses. The combination of the riches of Ignatian Spirituality and the beautiful setting of the house make it a wonderful place to deepen one’s relationship with God in order to go back into life and work renewed and re-energised to live the Gospel.’
